Member of Parliament for Asawase constituency and Minority Chief whip Alhaj Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has suggested that NDC maintains the current crop of executives of the party since it is not advisable to change a winning team.
It is the contention of Muntaka that although the NDC were not declared winners of the election, the party did well, especially in the Ashanti Region.
Muntaka made the remarks during John Mahama’s Thank you Tour of the Ashanti Region.
Amplifying Muntaka’s statement, Ako Gunn, a Deputy Communication Officer of the NDC noted Muntaka’s remark as follows:
“He (Muntaka) made this statement relating to the 2020 election results. How can we change a winning team? We believed we won the elections, in Ashanti Region, we pulled over 26% from 23% in the national elections we had enough votes to pull the elections to a run off from a previous 44% .I believe we need to empower experienced people to move into this critical elections in 2024 . We can’t make any mistake in the upcoming elections.”
The current General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, is likely to contest Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for the chairmanship slot of the party.
Some NDC members still hold Ofosu-Ampofo responsible for doing a poor job as Director of Elections in 2016 and equally another poor job of appointing Elvis Afriyie Ankrah as Director of Elections for 2020, who is also gunning for General Secretary.
