The Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the governing NPP, Dennis Kwakwa has described the 2020 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama as a leader who is eternally ungrateful to the people of the Ashanti region despite having amassed massive votes from them in 3 successive Presidential Elections since 2012.
His remark follows comments made by the opposition leader that it is difficult to be a member of the NDC in the Ashanti region while praising those who have braved the odds to own up as members of the party albeit unfashionable to do so in a region that is dominated by supporters of their archrivals the NPP.
The former president John Dramani Mahama while addressing party faithful at an interaction session with foot soldiers and party executives as part of his “Thank You Tour” of the Ashanti region said, “it is not easy to openly declare that you are a member of the NDC here … it is either you would be intimidated, or be looked down upon like a leper; they look at your face and express shock that you are an NDC member as if you are a leper or you are unclean.
But contributing to discussions on the sentiments expressed by Mr. Mahama on Angel In The Morning with KT on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Dennis Kwakwa said it is not surprising the former president would describe the Ashanti region as such because he had used even more derogatory descriptions in the past.
“John Mahama is bent on disrespecting the people of the Ashanti region at the least chance; we are not surprised because that has been his stock in trade over the years. The NDC as a party has never acknowledged the votes that they get in the region, so it is high time their supporters advised themselves”
He however drew the attention of Mr. John Mahama and his NDC that the Ashanti region that they call a hostile ground has consistently been where the party gets its third-largest votes in successive elections
