According to information that has reached us, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, or KNUST, has experienced violence in some areas.
It comes after fights between inhabitants of Katanga Hall and Unity Hall, also known as Conti and University Hall, respectively.
Although the possible cause of the altercation is unknown at this time, sources on campus claim that it began throughout the day.
GhanaWeb has seen social media posts depicting inhabitants of the halls throwing stones at one another and starting fires.
On the scene, a police vehicle and an officer can be seen. Some of the vehicles have had their windows broken.
On Friday, August 5, and Saturday, August 6, 2022, Commonwealth and Mensah Sarbah Hall residents at the University of Ghana got into a fight.
The conflict between the rival halls resulted in the burning of a car and the removal of John Mensah Sarbah’s bust, among other property destruction.
Since the altercation, the administration has prohibited any student meetings and processions outside the boundaries of any halls.
The senior tutor and hall master of Commonwealth Hall have lost their jobs as a result of their refusal to assist with the inquiries into the situation.
The cost of the Mensah Sarbah hall’s damage has also been added to the hall’s surcharge.
On August 16, irate Commonwealth Hall residents dressed in red demonstrated against the administration’s decision to dismiss their senior instructor and hall master.
Due to the circumstance, there was a significant deployment of security personnel to the school in order to uphold law and order and prevent any clashes.
Although order has been restored at KNUST, the scene of the incident, police have been dispatched, and the military is on alert to provide reinforcement, according to information obtained by Extranewsgh.com.
