The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo, has said the NDC government, when voted into power in December 2020, will recruit a lot of youth into the Ghana Police Service.
He said, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, who is the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress for the upcoming December Polls, is committed to increasing the police to civilian ratio, adding that about 40 percent of the new recruits will be women.
“President John Dramani Mahama says that I should inform you that he wants to improve the police to civilian ration when he becomes the next president of Ghana, and for that matter for the four years that he is going to rule.
“For every year, 2,000 additional policemen and women will be recruited.
“Our manifesto says out of the number of police officers who will be recruited, 40% of them will be women.”
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo made this known while engaging a section of the community in Denu within the Ketu South constituency, where Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Mr. John Dramani Mahama’s running mate toured as part of her three-day visit to the Volta Region.
He, later, cautioned police service not to allow themselves to be manipulated by the government. Mr. Ampofo also advised police personnel to see civilians as their friends and not allow any political authority to use them to intimidate and harass people on the day of the election.
The National Chairman reiterated the fact that His Excellency the former President, who is also the Presidential hopeful of the NDC, Mr. John Mahama is going to build a government of national unity.
We want Ghanaians to know that the unity of this country is more paramount than any other parochial political interest”.
