Charles Akonnor’s desire to welcome back Kevin-Prince Boateng into the Black Stars faces a mounting legal drawback following a Government White Paper recommendation against the Fiorentina forward – which remains in force.

The Ghanaian gaffer has revealed he will welcome back the 33-year-old, who has been banished from the national following the country’s chaotic 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Together with compatriot Sulley Muntari, the pair were thrown out of the team’s camp and subsequently suspended indefinitely for verbally abusing former coach James Kwesi Appiah.

However, Akonnor has made the clarion call for his return to the team after confirming his desire to work with him.

But that desire faces a massive legal obstacle after a government White Paper, released after the work of the Dzamefe Commission explicitly stated that neither Kevin Prince-Boateng nor Sulley Muntari should be invited into the Black Stars as a measure to maintain the discipline that has been restored since Brazil 2014.

Since the decision of the Commission is regarded as a High Court ruling and it was not challenged by the players, it becomes binding and must be followed verbatim.

And Akonnor has revealed he will consult the Ghana Football Association over the obstacle which threatens his potential return to the team.

“If Kevin Prince Boateng is available? He’s played before. He has done well. There were some issues I think we cannot also deny but if he is doing well and is actively playing and is a strong, very experienced player, why not?.

“Whatever it is, I really need to talk to the FA about it but he will be welcomed. There are some issues with I cannot discuss but if he is interested [he can come].

“You know the other day during the press conference, I had a chat with him and the story was different. Later he came back [to clarify]. When I came to Germany he was now coming up in Hertha Berlin. I know him very well. He was a very tough boy.” he told Joy Sports’ Benedict Owusu.

The former Barcelona player recently said in an Instagram Live chat with his half brother Jerome of Bayern Munich that he has an unfinished business with the Black Stars.

The former AC Milan star, who represented Ghana at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, has been capped 15 times and scored twice.
