Fire gutted the Odawna the Market at Circle in the early hours of Wednesday, November 18. His Excellency the President, Nana Akufo-Addo has promised that government will rewire major markets in Accra as that seems to be the main causative agent of the fire outbreaks.
The President commiserated with the traders who lost their items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the blazing fire that ravaged the Odawna market.
The President said in his address to the traders;
“Government will undertake a project of rewiring all major markets in the capital to prevent such incident from happening,”
He further encouraged the traders to exercise restraint and remain hopeful as the government seeks to help them out.
President Akufo-Addo said the government would make sure traders whose wares were destroyed by the fire would be given support in order to restart their businesses.
The Greater Accra NADMO director, Mr. Archibald Kwabena, revealed that a committee has been set up to investigate the incident in order to find a lasting solution to the problem that keeps occurring in the country.
The committee comprises of the reps from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and Officials of NADMO who would be tasked to investigate the issues of fire outbreaks and propose measures that could be adopted to curb the worrisome situation.
He added that the committee will ensure that they work to relieve the pain of the people and also to ensure that the government’s promise to the traders is fulfilled.
Mr. Kwabena assured traders who have gone in for loans from banks that their various banks would be contacted for traders to be given a grace period to make payments.
The NADMO directed said;
“We will speak with their banks, the reports that will come out, we would also give them copies so that they can file in their banks to ensure that the banks can give them a grace period.
