Thomas Tuchel is resigned to losing out in the fashion stakes to Olivier Giroud but he rhapsodised about the Frenchman giving Chelsea a winning edge ahead of a “huge” fixture.
Manchester United head to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with the Red Devils still unbeaten on their Premier League travels this season.
Tuchel may be new to the Premier League but he is no stranger to United, having faced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
His PSG side twice lost to United at the Parc des Princes but won on both of their visits to Old Trafford.
“We hope we can turn this around and win at home,” Tuchel said on Friday.
If Chelsea are to continue their impressive progress since Tuchel’s January appointment, it may fall to the likes of Giroud to make the difference, just as he did with a spectacular overhead kick winner against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.
