Former Deputy Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has indicated in a post shared on Facebook that the National Democratic Congress’ Members of Parliament are not the only one culpable of drawing double salaries.
According to him, a similar incident happened under the John Agyekum Kufour when some MPs who doubled as Ministers drew double salaries.
He said during the period, unlike the Attorney General under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government insisting on criminal charges against NDC’s Members of Parliament, there is the need to take steps to recover the excess payment and not institute criminal prosecutions.
Dr. Dominic Ayine indicated that the Public Financial Management Act and its regulations makes provision for the recovery of overpayments to public servants, a class that includes the former appointees, to be recovered in a civil action.
The Bolgatanga East Member of Parliament indicated that If this issue had come to him whilst he was Deputy Attorney General, he would never have advised for the prosecution of former NPP appointees just because they belonged to a different political faction
He used the opportunity to remind the Attorney General that time does not run by crime and therefore if he wants to prosecute NDC Members of Parliament, he should also sue some NPP MPs who doubled as Ministers under the President John Agyekum Kufour’s government.
