The leadership of the Church of Pentecost (COP) in the country has lauded the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and the government for the ongoing reforms in the education sector.
The Chairman of the Church, Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye, who made the commendation explained for instance, that the Free Senior High (FSHS) initiative and the introduction of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education are among the best policies that could help transform the fortunes of the country soon.
He, therefore, urged the government to increase publicity on some of the good policies it is rolling out in the country so that the entire populace would understand and appreciate the projects. Apostle Myamekye also called on the government to resolve all bottlenecks surrounding all such initiatives so that the people would benefit more from them.
Apostle Kwabena Nyamekye was speaking at a meeting with the Minister for Education when he visited the Headquarters of the Church of Pentecost at Labadi in Accra on Tuesday.
The meeting was part of the Education Minister’s annual interaction with Faith-Based Organizations in the country to share ideas on government’s initiatives on education in the country.
The Chairman of the Pentecost Church of Ghana said with the massive drift of people, especially the youth from the hinterlands to urban centres, there is the need for the government to consider siting major school projects in the urban and strategic locations which already have access to all the needed facilities such as electricity, water and internet among others which could support education development.
“You have made the Church of Pentecost proud, you are doing well for the nation, especially with the management of the FSHS policy which has brought great relief to the needy in the country,” he said.
Again, Apostle Nyamekye said, “Human beings have been made managers of this planet and for us to manage well, we need to understand the earth. One thing we should understand is that education is the key to development. Everybody needs to be developed to bring about the development of the country.”
The Chairman pledged the support of the Pentecost Church to the Education Minister for the great ideas he has been introducing into the sector towards the transformation of the country.
Dr. Adutwum was full of praise for the Church for its support toward the development of the country.
“I count on the Church as my backbone physically and spiritually, so I am grateful to the Church for your continued prayers and advise to me all the time” Dr Adutwum said.
He spent a lot of time enumerating the various initiatives and innovations being introduced into the education sector to ensure that Ghanaian students could compete with their peers in any part of the globe.
