The Former Methodist Bishop of Obuasi Diocese Bishop Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu has expressed disappointment in the ruling that directed the Achimota school to admit the two rasta students they earlier refused to admit for keeping their dreadlocks.
He opined the ruling delivered by the judge was unfortunate and should not have been the case.
The man of God questioned how the law was interpreted and whether wisdom and morals were not applied in reaching the conclusions reached by the judge.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he asked the judge who presided over the matter to rescind the decision in directing the school to admit the students.
He stated the affected students are in school not only for academic purposes but to also be trained and shaped morally.
To him, if the court has granted such an order then galamsey operators and prostitutes should be allowed to operate.
He argued it is their fundamental right to eat hence they should be allowed to work.
“If that was the ruling, then galamsey operators should operate. Don’t they have the rights? It is their fundamental right to eat. What is the fundamental right of traders selling on our roads? If the government directs them to stop, is it not their right to eat? Excuse me to say can we also say it is the fundamental right of prostitutes to eat and so they should operate? So why don’t we allow them to prostitute so they can eat? I am disappointed in the ruling of the court. The judge must reverse her order. It is not proper and should not be encouraged. She must go back and come back with her ruling.”
He said rules by schools should not be thrown to the dogs on grounds of fundamental rights.
He added that the rasta students could be a bad influence on other students.
He asked the judge to go back to her chambers and do the needful or the Judicial Council should call her to order.
