West Ham have confirmed that they will hand indefinite bans to the fans who were filmed singing an antisemitic song towards a Jewish man on board a plane.
David Moyes’ side drew 2-2 away at Genk in the Europa League on Thursday thanks to a second-half brace from Said Benrahma, with footage emerging shortly before the match of a group of fans chanting the offensive song apparently on board a flight to Belgium.
The victim can be seen walking down the aisle of the Ryanair flight as various men sing and record video on their mobile phones.
A West Ham spokesperson said in a statement: “West Ham United is appalled by the contents of the video circulating on social media and condemn the behaviour of the individuals involved. The club is liaising with the airline and relevant authorities to identify the individuals.
“We continue to be unequivocal in our stance – we have a zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination. Any individuals identified will be issued with an indefinite ban from the club.
“Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the football club and we do not welcome any individuals who do not share those values.”
West Ham similarly pledged to ban a group of supporters who engaged in antisemitic chants on a tram back in 2019 prior to a Premier League match against Manchester United.
