Former President John Mahama has said that victory for the ruling New Patriotic Party in the 2024 election will spell doom for the country.

Speaking at a gathering in Wa in the Upper East as part of his thank you tour, the former President said that the NPP government have no intention of protecting the public purse as they claim.

Rather he accused the NPP government of abusing their incumbency to embezzle money.

For the sake of accountability, Mahama is appealing to Ghanaians to vote out the NPP come 2024 so that others can also audit their work.

‘‘The NPP have no intention of fighting corruption and so the only way they can be made to account to the people of Ghana is for them to leave office so that the new government will come and audit them and show where they have gone wrong. Otherwise, all the money they have stolen, they will just walk away with it” he said.

He added that “If you participate in politics or are a participant in public service, one of the first things you must be willing to do is to be accountable to the people. The only way they could be accountable is for them to leave office so that the people of Ghana can ask them questions and audit them to make sure they account for the period they were in office”.

This statement however comes on the back of a response to the cousin of the President, Mr Gabby Otchere Asare Darko.

Describing the former President as ‘Mahama the Disaster’, Mr Otchere Darko said that the reason why the NPP is so keen on breaking the eight year jinx is to protect the country from Mr Mahama and his allies.

“I read John Mahama saying on his belated “thank you tour” that NPP wants to break the eight in order to protect itself from corruption. The simple response to that must be that the NPP wants to break the eight in order to protect Ghana and the gains being made for Ghanaians from the likes of “Mahama the Disaster”.
