A panelist on Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio known as Nana Prempeh has described Members of Parliament(MPs) for the Ashanti Region as the most unproductive lawmakers in the country.
According to him, these lawmakers do not represent the good of the region but their selfish selves.
He believes that the retrogression of the Region is as a result of the kind of lawmakers the region has and therefore there is the need for the people to have a rethink about the people they put in office to represent them.
Citing his basis for the conclusion reached, he said the Volta Caucus in Parliament was able to force the government to earmark money for feasibility studies and other works on the Keta Sea Defence.
He argued that the Northern caucus in Parliament have also through their lobbying have been able to get the government to construct an interchange in the Northern Regional capital of Tamale.
Nana Prempeh could not point to one project the Ashanti caucus had lobbied for the region indicating that all they are good at is shouting “yeah Yeah” in Parliament whiles their colleagues fight for development in the regions.
On Dr.Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s calls to demonstrate if the Finance Minister makes an allocation for the Keta Sea Defence wall, Nana Prempeh doubted if the Energy Minister was in the right frame of mind to make such calls.
To him, he wouldn’t have got the numbers for that demonstration because the people of the region are peeved and until they take up responsibility, they will not be revered like they use to be.
“As tomorrow is Akwasidae they will come here with their Kente and flaunt it on us, you think that is what we want to see? We also want to see you working like other caucuses in parliament are working for their regions. Our roads are bad, when there are rains there’s flood everywhere, these things should be dealt with.
They should stop sabotaging each other because of political ambitions and work for the region. It looks like in the Ashanti Region, we are more focused on elections than development and that has been our bane”.
