Ghanaians should expect to see Police Patrol Units go hard with their checks on V8 powered vehicles in the country, as a case is filed with the Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare to check on drivers of these vehicles who flout road traffic regulations.

A senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof Ransford Gyampo has just concluded a meeting with the IGP to penalize these drivers, whom he termed, as being lawless.

Prof Ransford Gyampo who has taken note of how reckless some of these drivers drive through his hometown and at certain areas, especially at police checkpoints felt the IGP must be notified and actions must be taken to address this problem. He indicated on his Facebook page that IGP Dr Dampare invited him over to his office to discuss the matter.

Out of this meeting, an excited Prof Gyampo signalled that the drivers of V8 powered vehicles should beware as the police would soon clamp down on them. He noted that no one is above the law, let alone be allowed to disrespect police checkpoints in the country.

“Those of you on my hometown road (Malam-Yamoransa road) who drive V8 without respecting police checkpoints; please I have reported you to Dampare. I saw him taking notes.

We have also made the point that; no one must be above the laws of Ghana,” a section of his post read.

Just recently, Prof Gyampo hinted on Facebook that there are some criminals among users of these V8 vehicles who because of some privileges parliamentarians enjoy at police checkpoints tend to sidestep the protocols and drive through even when an officer of the Police attempts to stop them. He believed that was a major threat to security and intelligence and sought to avert the mind of the IGP and the Police administration to it through his post.

It is believed that that post triggered today’s meeting. From his very first encounter with IGP Dr Dampare, the learned professor of political science, Prof Gyampo remarked that; “he epitomizes the sobriety and assertiveness, I was talking about the other time.”

Surely, this confirms testimonies that have been shared over time of the personality Dr Dampare has.
