The youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has presented a number of initiatives intended to put pressure on the government to repeal the 10% betting tax that was just enacted.

Concerns over what they see as an unfair taxation regime that unfairly affects the nation’s youth and the larger betting business are what prompted their action.

The 10% betting tax, which was put in place to increase tax collection, has drawn a lot of flak.

The NDC’s youth contend that this tax unfairly burdens young Ghanaians who wager for amusement and, in some circumstances, as a source of income.

A press release from the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, George Opare Addo, expressed the party’s dissatisfaction with the tax, asserting, “Our determination to protect the fund’s Young People secure through betting is unyielding. Through agitations, protests, advocacy, and civic engagements, we will ensure our voices are heard and demand that this CORRUPT Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Government rescind its decision.”

In the declaration, they described their intended course of action, which included picketing outside the Ministry of Finance, occupying government buildings all around the country, and intensifying legitimate protests against the taxation policy.

Additionally, they want to encourage young people to speak out against perceived corruption and insensitivity within the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

The youth also plan to occupy Parliament and other institutions of government in order to raise awareness of their issues.
