Majority reviews 1.75% e-levy

The Majority caucus in Parliament, New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reviewed downward the 1.75% electronic transaction levy introduced by the government in the 2022 “Agyenkwa Budget”, Angelonline.com.gh can confirm.

The reduction of the e-levy to 1% will be applicable to persons who perform transactions from GH₵300 above. This affects mobile money, inward remittances, bank transfers and merchant payments.

This was communicated to the Minority, the National Democratic Congress as the leader of the caucus, Haruna Iddrisu, in a letter issued after the rejection of the 2022 budget stated that his side of the house is “unable to support” the economic policy unless the government reviews the taxes.

According to them, should they support the implementation of the budget, they would be acting irresponsibly towards the Ghanaian public and being irresponsive to their needs.

The NPP have also indicated that provisions have been made for affected persons and communities of the tidal waves which struck on November 7, 2021, this the Minority also indicated they wanted to see reflect in the budget else they would boycott the budget.

Meanwhile, Parliament will be meeting today as part of its usual schedules.

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, is expected to meet both sides of the House during its meeting.
