The Ningo Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, has questioned the sudden silence of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on pertinent national issues.
Speaking on the Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, the lawmaker noted that the once vociferous Dr Bawumia, who was a strong advocate for various government policies, has lately been missing.
Mr Nartey George was concerned about the Vice President’s silence over government’s proposed E-Levy.
“On issues that had to do with the Communication Ministry that had nothing to do with economic management like the GPS, Dr Bawumia was all over the place. He was speaking at functions and having media engagements, which was the duty of the Communications Ministry.
“He was the postal boy for ‘Jack, where are you?’ and truly Jack, where are you now? Why is he not explaining to us now?” he quizzed.
He couldn’t fathom why Dr Bawumia, who had initially declared that he did not believe in taxing mobile money as his stance, has now turned silent on government’s decision to introduce the e-levy.
“What has been the change in his policy thinking? The President picked him [Bawumia] because of his experience managing the economy in what he had done for President Kufuor.
“He was made the Head of Economic Management team, and on the government’s major economic policy for the 2022 fiscal year, which is the e-levy, Dr Bawumia has gone mute.”
“He as the head of the Economic Management Team should be explaining the policy to us,” he added.
He believes the E-levy is not a feasible policy if the silence of the Vice President is an indication that he is not in support of the policy.
