Yesterday the country was thrown into a debate after it was revealed that the wives of the First and Second Gentlemen are to receive allowances. It is important to know that Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Samira Bawumia have no clear responsibilities to demand salaries. It has been an interesting debate.
This coincided with news that the country had acquired a loan to facilitate the purchase of cars for law makers in the country. Ghanaians have lambasted MPs for bring one on these discussions and approving them.
Captain Smart has waded into this discussion and today, Thursday, July 8, 2021 on ‘Onua Maakye’ he sent a message to the President and those at the helm of affairs. According to him President Akufo-Addo has failed in protecting the country’s purse. Interestingly, Mr. Smart called for the payment of allowances for the wife of Alban Bagbin.
“President Akufo-Addo promised to protect the public purse. Are you protecting the purse? If you are an MP and you take the money for the car, may God punish you! You people take us to be fools. Nana Addo you are behaving like a father who hasn’t paid the fees of his children, whose children haven’t eaten and rather he chooses to buy a car. Don’t compare yourself to Mahama and Kufuor.
If the President is out of the country, then the Vice President has to act, if the vice President isn’t there, then the Speaker of Parliament becomes the acting president. So why not pay the wife of the Speaker since Alban Bagbin is a potential president too? Why? Ghanaians are not fools anymore. Things must change. The ordinary Ghanaian is suffering” Captain Smart said.
