At the MacDan Park in Accra, the Ghana Amputee Football team won the 2023 African Paralympic Games football event by defeating Morocco 2-1 after coming from behind.
After losing 2-1 to the North Africans in the group round, the Black Challenge entered the championship game wanting retribution against the Moroccans.
Team Ghana was more vulnerable to attack from the Moroccans in the first minutes of the game, which forced the goalie to make saves.
After a mistake by midfielder Allotey, who gave the ball away cheaply in midfield, they eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a fantastic curler into the upper left corner.
The Black Challenge made a much better start to the second half by continuing to apply pressure to the Moroccan defense and pushing the goalie to make some outstanding saves.
The football gods eventually smiled on the Ghanaian team in the final moments of the game as Hamza Mohammed completed a brilliant team play to bring Team Ghana back on equal footing after a string of pressure.
Team Ghana capitalized on the momentum and took the lead as the arena erupted in song and support from the crowd.
Team Ghana won the trophy thanks to a goal from captain Richard Attah, who completed and gave the Black Challenge a 2-1 lead in extra time.
