Cape Coast, 5th August, 2021, Cleanliness they say is next to Godliness but, there are a plethora of sanitation challenges across the country and with every district in Ghana having its own sanitation problems, the MP for the Cape Coast North Constituency has embarked on some sanitation activities and projects in his constituency.
Over the weekend Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku collaborating with Care for Nature organised a clean up exercise to clean to the Abura Market, Abura lorry stations and the Abura township.
The exercise started at about 0630 gmt and ended at about 1100 hours gmt. They desilted choked gutters and swept around places that were littered were debris. With the support from the Ghana Fire Service, Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, and Zoomlion, the clean up exercise was successful.
When RAGGA’s (as he is affectionately called) views was sought regarding the programme, he said sanitation issues are for the assembly to tackle and deal with. However, since it is a collective effort, he is ready to support.
“As the MP, who has his people at heart, I cannot just sit aloof. When my office was approached by Care for Nature seeking collaboration for a clean up exercise in my Constituency, I was very elated and had to join and support them.” Coincidentally, Ragga is also a member of the Care for Nature group.
He further added that, on a personal level he had collaborated with the Assembly Man, Malik Adjei and has already supported with the construction of a better stationary post where the skip container for the township area would be placed. “All these are things I’m doing to help improve upon sanitation in my Constituency”.
To improve the waste disposal behaviour of the market women, Ragga and Care for Nature donated tire bins painted in Ghana colours to enhance visibility and draw the attention of everyone to dispose rubbish appropriately. Some market women who participated in the exercise expressed their elation at what their Member of Parliament has done for and with them. They asked for God’s guidance and blessings for him.
To promote unity and solidarity and to place the development of Cape Coast North Constituency at the forefront of his developmental agenda, Ragga invited the former Member of Parliament, Hon Barbara Asher Ayisi to join the clean up exercise. Residents of Abura were so happy to see the unity and maturity displayed.
In attendance at the clean up exercise were the former MP for Cape Coast North, the two Assembly men for the electoral area, members of Care for Nature, some Constituency and branch executives of both NDC and NPP political parties, TEIN NDC students of UCC, some Abura market women and residents within the catchment area.
To appreciate and motivate participants, water, yoghourt, kenkey and fish were duly served after the entire exercise.
