Marie-Josée Ta Lou, an Ivorian sprinter, came dangerously close to making the podium in the women’s 100-meter final at the World Championships in Budapest.

The silver medallist from the same distance at the 2017 World Championships narrowly came in fourth place behind Sha’Carri Richardson, Shericka Jackson, and Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Ta Lou, who has developed a reputation for consistently finishing in the lead but never taking the victory, was distraught following the race.

However, she acknowledged that after crying all night on Monday, she is much better now and is totally focused on the women’s 200m semifinals in an exclusive conversation with Joy Sports editor Fentuo Tahiru.

“It’s really hard because year after year my body feels different. But I thank God in everything,” she said.

“This has been one of my favourite seasons, even though I didn’t win the 100m final.

“I’m now focused on the 200m, the relays and the Diamond League meetings after this.

“Mentally, I’m good now, but that wasn’t the case on Monday and Tuesday when I cried all night,” she added.

On Thursday, Ta Lou will compete in the 200-meter race against Sha’Carri Richardson and Shericka Jackson, two of her competitors from the 100-meter race.
