The Ghana Police Service has admonished the general public to be cautious of their movement as available intelligence indicates the presence of human organ harvesters in Ghana whose modus operandi is to entice people with presents so as to lure them away to harvest their organs.

The Police Anti – human Trafficking Unit said that depending on which part of the body, an organ harvested illegally can be sold as much $500,000.

Chief Superintendent Mike Baah, head of the Unit, made this admonishing during the opening of a three – day capacity building workshop organised in the Central Region by the Ministry for Children, Gender and Social protection and partners for security officials. The training which brought together law enforcement officers from all over the country was under the theme: Combating Human Trafficking and Irregular migration in Ghana.

Throwing more light on the issue, the senior official said the organ harvesters were operating a syndicate and usually come offering mouthwatering jobs to would be victims to convince them to foreign lands where they execute their plans with their partners. He urged the people to be on the lookout, saying that sometimes, the acts are carried out by close family members and associates.
