The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has appealed to government to find a lasting solution to the ongoing strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG).
Presiding Member of the AMA, Alfred Adjei told JoyNews that the strike has greatly affected the activities of the Assembly.
He lamented that CLOGSAG members being an integral part of the Assembly, the strike is hindering the Assembly from achieving its targets.
“CLOGSAG members are an integral part of the Assembly. They work at the Human Resource Department, the Finance Department, the Works Department and all the 16 departments of the Assembly…so you can just imagine just these two weeks, virtually everything has come to a halt, we are doing our best, but without them, you can never achieve whatever you are supposed to achieve as an Assembly,” he told JoyNews.
AMA for this reason wants the government to address the demands of CLOGSAG.
“It has really affected us greatly that’s why we are pleading with CLOGSAG members. At the same time the government should also prioritise them as soon as possible for them to sit down with them to jaw jaw,” he said.
CLOGSAG on April 21 began a nationwide indefinite strike over the government’s failure to pay its members their neutrality allowance.
The Association in a statement said the neutrality allowance formed part of a Memorandum of Understanding entered into with the government on January 20, 2022.
According to CLOSAG, despite official reminders and follow ups to the Finance Ministry, payment of the allowance has not been effected after more than three months as agreed.
“It was noted that the neutrality allowance has not been effected as agreed in spite of official reminders and follow-ups to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
“The National Executive Council (NEC) therefore decided that CLOGSAG should embark on an industrial action to press home its demand for the implementation of the MoU,” CLOGSAG said in a statement to announce its strike action.
