The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo never promised to build a hospital in each district and promised to finish them a year on thereafter, Information Minister, Hon. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has said.
“The President never said that. And there is no record to show he said that. I challenge anyone who has a tape to effect to come out”, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker for Ofoasi-Ayiribi dared in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com on Kumasi-based Hello FM
The government is set to construct 111 District Hospitals, six regional hospitals and two new psychiatric hospitals as President Akufo-Addo inspects work on a district hospital in the Ashanti Region.
This has come under criticism as many are calling the President to fulfill its initial promise to build additional hospitals in every district in the country last year while he addressed Ghanaians on the COVID-19 update.
“President Akufo-Addo didn’t say he will build and complete it by now. 111 district Hospitals will commence on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. The provision will also see to the provision of two specialized hospitals, one for the middle belt and one for the northern part, these are psychiatric hospitals and then redevelopment of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.” Hon. Oppong-Nkrumah stated.
“It is programmed to take between 12 months to complete each one. The project implementation committee chaired by Chief of Staff Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare has currently secured 88 of the 101 sites.”
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added that the government is advancing $100 million for the project to commence.
