The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie W. Blay has said that the party is proud of the work Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has done as a Vice President of Ghana hence the praises he is receiving all over the place.
“Definitely Dr. Bawumia has been doing well as a Vice President, he’s been a very good economist and has been very helpful to the President and we are very proud of his performance,”he told Accra-based Joy News.
His comment comes on the back of the President’s description of the Vice President as a First Class Assistant which does not sit well with some quarters in the NPP.
According to him Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been helpful to the President in his tenure of office and he and all members of the NPP are proud of him so if the President hails his good works it may or may not be described as an endorsement of his candidature for flagbearership but nevertheless, there will be primaries.
“If the President describes him as a first class assistant means endorsement for the position, the constitution says that we will go for elections, primaries and definitely when the time comes people within the party should agree with him that indeed he is a first class and therefore he ought to be the flag-bearer among others why not, if on the other hand they decide that it ought to be someone else so be it.”
On whether he wanted the Vice President to be the party’s flagbearer, Freddie Blay indicated that he could not answer that questions as the Chairman of the political party but indicated that “Dr. Bawumia is capable among others and I’, proud if he is the leader on the other hand if the people within the party decide that someone else should be the flagbearer I’ll have no problems”.
