The member of parliament for Mparaso Davis Opoku Ansah has described the General secretary of the National Democratic Congress, NDC as a person who is Ignorant of Parliamentary standing orders.
Speaking on ‘The Probe’ on Joy Tv last night he said “ I can forgive the General secretary of the NDC for displaying such ignorance on your program, he is a member of Parliament before, learning the rules do not take ten years to do so, he may take ten years, for some of us we have being blessed and we know the Ins and outs of our book, the standing orders of ourParliament”.
When asked if he was questioning the capability and intelligence of Aseidu Nketia as a former member of parliament ? He stressed that anyone can sit in parliament for eight terms and if you don’t know you don’t know”.
He again explained that he feels no regrets or remorse for his actions that led to his side walking out. “I do not think it was unparliamentary. Parliament for a very long time for COVID do not allow people into the public gallery. So who is Aseidu Nketia to be allowed into the public gallery”.
Aseidu Nketia refuted the claims that due to COVID the public gallery was closed. “I was even invited that they have reserved a seat for me on the floor. I was invited by the clerks, the public gallery is not shut” he said.
Background
Davis Opoku was the MP who called for Aseidu Nketia to be removed from the public gallery. Hon. Davis was shouting on the floor and calling for the NDC’s General Secretary who was at the public gallery to walk out as the majority deputy leader called for a ‘Division’ to determine the fate of Finance minister Ken Ofori Atta’s prayer to the House. His prayer was for parliament to put approving the budget on hold for he the Finance minister to meet both leadership of the House.
The rules as accorded in ‘Division’ non MPs who were on the floor including the Finance minister were suppose to walk out, which actually the Speaker did ask them to. As this did not seat well with the Majority group, the Mparaso MP stood up and kept shouting for Aseidu Nketia to also walk out, this eventually led to the majority group walking out as the speaker did not respond to the calls for the NDC General secretary to be thrown out from the public gallery.
