
Cargill Ghana Limited has cut sod to commence the construction of six new basic infrastructure projects at Adjei Kojo in the Tema West Constituency.
The infrastructure projects include six-unit classroom block with office, library, computer laboratory , staff common room, toilet facility and Urinal and it comprise with three primary schools, two kindergarten blocks, and one Junior high school block in the communities of Fahiakobo, Lineso, Fojourkrom, Juabo, Afofiekrom in the Western North region and Adjei Kojo.
The 6 new basic schools being constructed by Cargill in conjunction with CARE International are located in Adjei Kojo, Fordjourkrom, Fofiekrom, Fahiakobo, Juabo, and Lineso.
Present at the ceremony were the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Hon Okyere Baafi, MP for Tema West, Hon Carlos Ahenkorah among, and Heads of Diplomatic Missions.
The Cargill schools project is also estimated to provide 700 children with access to quality education from five project communities.
The project is executed in partnership with CARE international, comprising of three primary schools, two kindergarten blocks, and one Junior High School (JHS) in the Adjei Kojo community close to Cargill’s processing facility.
In an Interview with the Managing Director of Cargill Ghana Limited, Aedo Van der Weij, stated that, the organization to support cocoa sustainability and working in cocoa growing communities to build better lives for cocoa farmers.
Mr. Aedo Van der Weij reiterated Cargill’s commitment to supporting access to quality education.
“We at Cargill believe education is really a key driver for prosperity, empowerment and economic sustainability. So this project will impact between 700 and 800 pupils. We are delighted to also contribute the foundation of education in Ghana,” he remarked.
Also, Deputy Minister of Education, John Ntim Fordjour also highlighted the readiness of his office to deploy qualified teachers to the schools once they have been completed.
He urged industry players in the cocoa value chain to undertake social investment into positioning wards of cocoa farmers in underserved communities to contribute meaningfully to the industry in the future.
The Minister again urged Cargill and other industry players to support Gifted and Talented wards of cocoa farmers through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics pathways so as to attain essentials skills in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Process Control, Food Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Science, and such other skills required in the cocoa industry.
