The Government of Ghana has deployed 400 Military men in its fourth phase of the fight against illegal mining in water bodies, especially along the Ankobra River
A statement from the Information Ministry indicated that the Military personnel will be working on the Ankobrah river and its tributaries.
And are expected to remove all persons and machines used in mining of gold illegally in water bodies.
The statement warned the public to desist from going to mining sites to prevent the Military from taking action.
Government is bent on ensuring that Ghana’s water bodies regain their old state and forest reserves are protected after the failed fight against galamsey in its first term in office.
The government’s directive to burn down mining equipment has been met with contempt especially from the NDC but the President of Ghana has said that people who have problems with the directive can go to court.
He has rallied the support of Ghanaians to help fight people who are engaged in illegal mining.
