American Gospel Singer, Phil Thompson is encouraging young worship artists not to mimic other artists but rather tap into what God has for them.

In an interview with Pastor Ato Acquah on Joy FM’s devotion program, ‘Joy Time in His Presence’ Monday, he said every person’s worship is as unique as their fingerprint.

“My job is to simply usher in the presence of God and move out of the way, so he can do what he wants to do. If you take sinner stage, you are in the way and i am speak to each artist who is a worship artist.

“You have something in you that the world is waiting for, so tap into what God has placed inside of you and do not try to mimic anybody else out here because you have the secret source, and the world is waiting for you. Keep that in mind that the world is waiting for you. You have something nobody else has,” he said.

Phil Thompson also opened up about the difficult season of his divorce.

“Filing for a divorce after 16 years of marriage was the toughest decision I’ve ever made in my life, and the three-year court battle over custody of my children broke me to my core.”

“I went through a terrible season in my life, and it was just so dark and terrible. That season was divorced, and I was married for 16 years and filing for divorce from my wife was the most difficult decision I have had to make in my life.

“I counselled with so many bishops and people that I look up to in my life and share with them everything that was going on when I got to that point, and the decision to file for divorce was so difficult and then everything that followed after that. There was a custody battle for my children, which I was not happy with, and it broke me.

“I was so broken in the season that I would cry myself to sleep every night, and I did not want it to happen. I did not want to be separated from my children, and I did not want to be separated from my wife. It got crazy because we had to go through a court battle for me to even stay in my children’s lives.

“So I mean, it broke me to my core, and I believe that the Lord knows exactly how much we can bear, and right before I lost my mind, he pulled me out,” he narrated.

“I remember I was doing laundry one day, I remembered we fought in court for three years for the children, there were accusations that were made towards me that were not true, and I remember walking in the court sing Fred Hammond’s no weapon and I remember everything ruled in my favour.”

Phil Thompson of “My Worship” fame recently released a new song, ‘Jesus’, and he’s planning to release a full album later in the year.
