Some structures built on waterways at Lashibi have been demolished by the Tema West Municipal Assembly following an indication to that effect by Regional Minister Henry Quartey when he visited the area not too long ago.

The Municipal Engineer of the Tema West Municipal Assembly, Mr Vincent Blah Quarshie, told journalists during the demolition exercise that: “The rainy season is almost here… to us in Tema West, it was welcoming for the Regional Minister to come and wake us up”.

“We already had an action plan to demolish buildings on waterways especially as the rainy season beckons”, he noted.

According to him, “once we have started, we want to make sure that whatever is preventing the contractor from working” on an intended bridge in the area, is cleared for the project to take place.

He said even though the affected persons have “invested” in their structures, they must blame themselves for building on waterways.
