The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress has advised the Electoral Commission to see to it that all anomalies have been rectified before the general elections on Monday to avoid any form of inconveniences.
The electoral commission on December 1, conducted the Special voting for the security services, journalists, and some professionals who would be on special assignments. Though the overall outcome was very successful, there were few people whose names could not be found in the register. It is in light of this the National Democratic Congress is raising concerns that solutions be found to such challenges.
The NDC revealed that there are concerns that such persons may not be able to vote on December 7 because they will be working at different places other than their original constituencies.
The Deputy General Secretary of the party, Mr. Peter Boamah Otukunor in an interview on Joy news which was monitored by MynewsGhana.net indicated that such anomalies may not enhance a smooth election although the general overview for the special voting was smooth.
Mr. Otukunor said;
“It is important to identify the few challenges that have riddled this exercise and make sure you put measures in place to resolve it because most of the challenges that confronted the system if it should happen on election day, that will be a bit problematic.”
During the Special voting, a total of 109,577 cast their ballots for their preferred presidential and parliamentary candidates across the country.
However, the electoral commission mentioned that those who were supposed to partake in the Special voting and couldn’t turn up to vote have lost the opportunity to vote in the 2020 elections. However, those whose names couldn’t be found could join in the General elections to cast their votes.
The General election is slated for Monday, December 7, 2020 hence, everyone eligible voter is encouraged to come out to exercise their civic right.
