The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) after failing to elect a Presiding Member in 2016 affected development in the Ashanti Regional Capital, but thanks to the leadership and vision of Akufo-Addo, it is now solved; MyNewsGh.com has gathered.
The assembly failed to elect a Presiding Member after the 9th attempt following the two aspirants’ inability to garner the required votes needed to take up the position.
Mr. Kwame Kwakye a former Assembly Member for Kwadaso who was part of one Presiding Member Aspirants Nana Kofi Senya campaign team explained how the then New Patriotic Party(NPP) Flagbearer Nana Addo called Nana Kofi Senya to step down from the contest to ensure development in Kumasi.
Speaking on TIME WITH ASSEMBLY MEMBERS show on Ambassador TV on YouTube hosted by Osei Kwadwo, Kwame Kwakye disclosed that “KMA failed to elect Presiding Member at that time because all the aspirants were tough and we’re eager to have that position”.
“I was shocked when Nana Kofi Senya told his team which I was part of that he is stepping down because Nana Akufo-Addo had advised him to take that decision to pave way for the assembly to elect a Presiding Member,” Kwame Kwakye said.
He added, “If Nana Kofi Senya decided to contest, I don’t think KMA would have elected a Presiding Member because none of the aspirants was ready to give up on his dream of becoming KMA Presiding Member”.
“After Nana Kofi Senya resigned from the contest because of Akufo-Addo’s advised KMA was able to elect a new presiding member to lead the assembly’s decision making”.
Kwame Kwakye explained “If Nana Addo was thinking about Kumasi development even when he was not a president, I don’t understand why some of his current appointees in the region have failed to push for development now that the man is the President of Ghana”
